Welcome to the Ocean Parkway east of Jones Beach. A few houses on the left. Sand dunes on the right. This tour starts at Jones Beach and goes eastbound on the Ocean Parkway.
This picture gives you a little better view of the nice old houses on the left.
This sign is advertising an upcoming U-turn. U-turns are very common along the parkway. There are no straight out crossroads. Instead there are at-grades at side roads. When you leave a side road, you need to turn right and then go up to the next U-turn if you want to go the opposite direction.
This sign tells you that the Babylon town beaches and Captree State Park are ahead. These signs are along the entire length of the parkway. They don't mean you're at all close to the beaches ... they're somewhere in the unknown ahead down the road.
The expressway goes down from 6 asphalt to 4 concrete lanes. This adds some extra flavor to the highway. Now wouldn't some woodies be nice...
The dunes are nice and natural.
The only at-grade on the parkway eastbound. Its for the Babylon town beaches, which are finally no longer "ahead."
