Approaching the beginning of the expressway at Burnside Avenue, the "Nassau Expressway" is transformed from a 4-lane undivided road with unlimited access into a true expressway with controlled access. The few flowers in the median pictured here are a weak attempt at landscaping. There's a wide ROW, but no trees. There is dense housing development right next to the ROW, and there's no attempt at blocking their view. When approaching the Seagirt Blvd interchange, there's a more freeway-like feel with the high median and the first BGS's on the expressway. Notice on the right-hand side there are two sets of lights coming from each pole. The big ones are for the expressway, and the small ones are for a bike trail. The Nassau Expressway barely misses an opportunity to re-enter NYC here. Those houses on the right are on city soil. After the interchange which is upcoming in this picture, the expressway ends while going over a tiny toll bridge with a $1.25 toll.
