Welcome to CR 83 northbound starting at the beginning of the expressway part just north of I-495. The sign in the picture proclaims CR 83 the "Vietnam Memorial Lane." Not highway or boulevard. Even "Vietnam Memorial Road" would be better than calling it a "lane."
Any pedestrians want to use this crossing? They have these all over New Jersey on traffic signals (push the button for the light to turn), but I've never seen a standalone like this. This one's falling down -- I wonder if it still works.
Beginning the uphill approach to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
That tower on the left is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
A better look at the monument, which is at the top of the hill in the median of CR 83. There is also parking in the median.
The downhill descent. This is definately the biggest hill in the area -- none of the other routes I've been on in this area go up and down so much. My 1977 Long Island map shows a ski area near here.
This part of the highway looks substandard to me. There's a small ditch in the median. A guardrail in the would be nice, or at least some reflectors.
When the ditch gets bigger, a guardrail is added to the scene.
Approaching the northern end of the expressway.
