North end of old US 1. Evidence shows that this is an old alignment because of a partially-removed narrow old bridge over the railroad. Looking south bound on old US 1. Right view is mainline US 1. Original concrete part of the highway. This is blocked off due to the bridge not going all the way over the CSX RR tracks. Going back north bound again. This picture, taken along the US 1 mainline, shows what used to be a bridge going over the CSX RR tracks.

This shows a map of the original NC 50 (Current US 1) alignment in North Carolina and South Carolina. Over the years, the highway has
received various names, including “Blue Star Highway,” “Capitol Highway,” and “Jefferson Davis Highway.” The “Jefferson Davis Highway” name goes as far north as Richmond. Some segments of US 1 have also been known as “Boydton Plank Road.”
